The variety of medicinal products and dermocosmetics is always increasing, so much so that sometimes it is difficult to keep up with all the innovations or even to remember all the relevant information. In the pharmacy, learning is ongoing but when you consider all that it entails, from active ingredients to side-effects and interactions, it can be overwhelming. The idea of holding an intensive course to train staff on the various products which the pharmacy stocks, had long been nagging. This seed was planted during Covid when the contact with other professionals and the training lectures were practically null, and Gozo Chemists had resorted to asking for online explanations on products by the experts working with the suppliers and importers.

This year a course was held at the pharmacy premises between March and June 2026. Bi-weekly sessions were held, during which the staff was trained on the medicinal products, supplements, vitamins and herbal products, as well as dermocosmetics, with the scope of ensuring that the best pharmaceutical healthcare service is provided to our clients. The sessions were held by the expert representatives of the companies covering Aboca, Clonmel, SVR, Avene, La Roche Posay, Vichy, Cerave, Nestle Resource and Nan, Pure encapsulations, Uriage, Vitis Dentaid, B Well Swiss, Apivita, Optibac, Teoxane, Isdin, Walmarck, Puressentiel, Revival, Cystiphane, Essere and Procare Health as well as Bioderma.

The fruit from the seed is no longer an overwhelming idea but a ready one which was represented by the certificate of attendance awarded to the participants at one of our summer events. All are now looking forward to start the next course starting this October 2026. Quoting William Butler Yeats, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
